After the top has been brought to the thickness I’m going for and cut slightly bigger that the shape it will ultimately take, I can then start the rosette. The first thing I’ll do is put a protective layer of shellac down, Then I lightly mark out what I’m doing and where I’ll make my cuts. I have a mini router on a sort of compass that I can spin in a circle and make cuts. I glue in black maple veneer strips into the channels and scrap them level then I cut out more material where I’m going to want solid black and in this case Turquoise too. I fill the cut outs with Ebony and Turquoise powders and use a thin viscosity ca glue. When the glue has set scrap the powders down and cut out the sound hole.
